Rawa is a tiny island located off Mersing on the south-east coast of Malaysia. The tiny island only has 2 resorts, Alang’s resort and Rawa Island resort. Both resorts are located near the main beach and are designed for different crowds: On the left of the beach, Rawa Island Resort is the one you want to go to for a family weekend, or for a romantic time. The Rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and mini-apartments can be rented with balconies having direct view on the sea. On the right side of the beach, Alang's resort is cheaper but offers more dorm-style rooms, with a little less comfort. This resort is designed for groups of friends coming onto the island for events or group trip! Both resorts can help you book the transport from Singapore and the total trip takes approximately 2-3 hours. (Singapore-Mersing drive + 30 minutes boat to the island) Alang's Resort can actually get you on the island on Friday night via a boat which leaves at 11pm/ midnight. Technically, this means that you could be leaving Singapore after a small Friday pint, and be on the beach eating seafood supper at midnight the same night! The other resort has transports to fetch you early morning on Saturday, and you can be on the beach, feet in the water, at 10am on Saturday morning.

Having been to Rawa twice, I have been able to try both resorts, and I think they perfectly match the requirements of the type of weekend you re after. Be it relaxing with family or partying with friends, the island is shared without any hustle! The food is fantastic, and there are a lot of activities. The pictures of the article are all from the left side of the beach, i.e. Rawa Island resort.

The beach on Rawa is perfect, and its possible to go around the island by kayak. For snorkeling, you just need to dump your head under the water right from the beach. There are corals everywhere and thousands of clown fishes!
