Jumbo*! (-Hello-)

Welcome to The | Travelarium Tanzania Page!

After much reflection, we decided to head to the African continent for our Honeymoon to fulfill one of our greatest wishes: climb the highest volcano of Africa, explore some of the most unique national parks in the world, and visit the notorious "Spice Island"!

We planned for a 2-week trip to Tanzania to climb the Kilimanjaro through the Machame route, drive into four of the most fantastic National Parks: Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Lake Manyala and Tarangire, and finally, indulge in beautiful Zanzibar Island.

Tanzania Map

Tanzania is a large country located on the east coast of Africa which became independent from British rule in 1961. The country is mostly rural, and the bulk of tourist activity is concentrated in the north where some of the most impressive and easily accessible parks are located, and on Zanzibar island.

To get there:

Ethiopian Airlines has daily flights from Singapore through Addis Abeba at reasonable prices. To get to Kilimanjaro Airport, it is cheaper to fly to Dar-es-Salam and take a domestic flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, although international flights do land directly at the small airport.

To organize the trip:

The trip we did is fairly classic and does require 2 weeks at least. Although it is probably possible to organize everything by yourself, we booked everything through an agency which settled the Kilimanjaro trek as well as the Safari. Drop my a mail for more info!

To read:

Into Africa

To immerse yourself in the Tanzania of the 19th century, its nature, and its eventful era made of colonial opportunism and slavery with Portuguese, Omanese, British and Americans; I strongly recommend this book which depicts the amazing travels of Dr. Livingstone and Stanley in a race to find the source of the planet's second longest river: the Nile!

Did you know?:

Tan-Zania was created in 1964, when "Tan-ganyika" the continental part of modern Tanzania named after the huge lake in the south of the country, and "Zan-zibar", the rebellious Muslim island which became independent from British rule in 1963, merged, to form Tanzania!

Our Trip:

We decided to go for quite a classic trip: We started with the most difficult part of the trip: The climb of Kilimanjaro, a 6 days trek to the summit, at nearly 6,000m! After this long trek, we went for a five days drive into four National Parks! We booked this entire trip (Kilimanjaro + Safari) through Trekking Hero and totally recommend this agency! You will get really good advise through fast e-mail responses, and very good care through the large network of local staff! For the Kilimanjaro Climb, we recommend Julius and his team (mbuyajulius@yahoo.com) who were really fantastic! And for the Safari; Tony, who is greatly knowledgable on all the wildlife of the parks, and who did his best to ensure that we got to see the largest diversity of animals in top comfort!

Last but not least, after all this time spent in the wild west of Tanzania, we headed to the Zanzibar for some well deserve rest on the legendary spice island!
